I have settled in Boone North Carolina.
Its great here. Its great for me, for the lifestyle I always thought I would lead. Its a perfect match for the things I value right now. Its a hub of sorts for anything you want to do outdoors, save for maybe surfing a salt water wave. (I hear there is a standing wave in West Virginia http://riverbreak.com/?attachment_id=8295 )
There are epic day long rides that crest over 6000 feet. There are epic back country mountain bike rides that will give you the fear if you make a wring turn. There are rocks to climb, there are incredible hikes. There are clandestine camp sites in remote areas easily reachable from home on a bike-cycle. There are river swimming holes that make summer days last forever. There are ski hills, sledding spots, fall colours galore, a national scenic drive cuts right through the middle, there are seasonal tourists spending money, and a big university bringing new faces every fall. There is a culture here that is genuine and honest, helpful and kind. There are some great stories if you take the time to ask, and some lasting friendships waiting to get your 6!
Im going to be here for a hot minute - maybe a long time.
Im going to go outside and play as much as I can.
Im going to take the lessons from the past, the stories that defined who I am as a man (notesfromthepegboard.blogspot.com) and keep it going, adding to the pile of my life and fortifying the foundations that have kept me going strong.
I want to share it.
